Don’t put unused medication down the toilet

Medications can contaminate water supplies and potentially contribute to antibiotic resistance, and wastewater treatment plants are not designed to fully remove pharmaceuticals.

Instead, unused or expired medications should be returned to a pharmacy or disposed of through other safe methods, such as a drug take-back programme.
